April 19, 2017: We are proud to announce the 2017 Spring Edition was a tremendous success! The evening began with filmmakers, their family, and friends interacting with one and other over the open bar (courtesy of Narragansett beer) and getting a chance to network and trade war-stories with some of the most promising up-and-coming filmmakers producing content today. The screenings were broken up into three blocks featuring a range of different genres from political documentaries, to aspiring web-series, foreign-language narratives, and expressionistic avant-garde pieces. When it comes to range and subject matter, we are never left wanting and we continue to encourage submissions from a variety of voices and visions, at home and abroad. While we screened just under 3 hours worth of films—a very whittled down list relative to submissions—the audience remained engaged and interacted with the films consistently through the entire run time, a true testament to the quality of the work we received. But at the end of the night, there could be only one winner, decided by the audience themselves: DAFFY, a film by Ayden Skye about two high schoolers who haven’t said a word to each other since the second grade find out that the key to a memorable school dance… is ditching the school, ended up going home with the Spring Audience Prize as well as the pride and bragging rights that go along with having your creative vision being recognized as the art that it is.
