Bowery Film Festival returns in resilient spirits for its 2020 Edition in a flexible online format on the Xerb.TV streaming platform, available from December 14th through the 18th. Bowery was founded to showcase adventurous works that challenge commercial and audience expectations, and continues that mission even in a most unusual year for the arts and the world at large.
The week opens with a full block of unique quarantine shorts, many submitted via the festival’s Instagram competition earlier in the year. This “micro-short” competition was developed to offer an avenue for filmmakers to flex their ingenuity in the midst of isolation, creating self contained one minute shorts exploring the uncertain “new normal,” which could be submitted for consideration free of charge. The festival also boasts several features and larger-scale shorts, including The Reception (starring Richard Kind & Skipp Sudduth), a bittersweet speculative film that questions the best course of action when society is shifting and politics turn ugly.
