Rikers Island is a stain on NYC. This film explores the movement to shut down the USA’s largest jail complex. Its horrendous history led advocates and directly impacted people to force former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to give the island an expiration date of August 31st, 2027.

Meant to Be – directed by Andrea Sambuccetti

“Guero” crossed Mexico’s border to reach Houston, Texas. He planned a better future, but he chose a bad path. Easy money selling drugs and carrying guns led him to high-risk relationships and he almost lost his life. Rescued by his family from the streets, Guero decided to change it all, but a huge tragedy occurred and once again he was left in God’s hands. Quadriplegic, he asks himself what reason he could have for being alive without being able to move. The power of love, association, resilience, and destiny will teach Guero he could do a unique project within the US to help thousands. Guero can now understand why his suffering was Meant To Be.
