The audience will vote for one film to receive a prize from Seed&Spark and the film will also move on to the 2nd round competition in July where prizes will be handed out to several filmmakers.
Launched in the Summer of 2012, Katra Film Series is screens a selection of quality short films every month by emerging and award-winning filmmakers living, studying or working in NYC, and provides a great networking platform for industry professionals.
In partnership with Everyone Matters and Rhino Films the 2014 Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a one-on-one meeting with acclaimed Producer Stephen Nemeth from the Academy-Award Nominated The Sessions and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Honored to announce Ron Simons to the 2014 Katra Film Series Grand Jury whose latest Producing credit includes the Broadway hit “Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” which was Nominated for 10 Tony Awards this week. Mr. Simons joins such distinguished judges as Jonathan Dana, Stephen Nemeth, Sebastian Cordero, and Juan Caceres.
Ron Simons is a two-time Tony Award-winning producer and actor. Ron leads the strategic planning/development of Theatre and Film projects including the critically acclaimed films: Night Catches Us, Gun Hill Road, Blue Caprice and Mother of George (all premiered at Sundance). He also produced the Broadway productions of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (currently on Broadway), Porgy & Bess (Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical), Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Tony Award for Best Play, Drama Desk, New Drama Critics and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Play, Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Play), Streetcar Named Desire and an investor in August Wilson’s Radio Golf on Broadway. Off-Broadway projects include Bedlam’s St. Joan and Bedlam’s Hamlet (currently running).
Ron is a recipient of the Heritage Award from Columbia College’s Black Alumni Council, 150 Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Washington, and is a Johnson & Johnson Leadership Award Fellow, IFP Cannes’ Producer’s Network Fellow and a Sundance Producers’ Summit Fellow. He holds a BA from Columbia College, an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MFA from the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program.

Do you have a short film you’d like to submit? Email us a vimeo link to info@katrafilmseries.com. No deadline or entry fee to submit. We’re looking for quality short films no longer than 15 minutes in length. However, we do make exceptions based on quality. Music videos, short docs, visual art, experimental, animations are welcome!
