JANUARY 21, 2020: The Katra Film Series is proud to return to the world famous Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Downtown Brooklyn next Tuesday, January 28th for its 8th Annual Grand Finale. The Finalists will compete for over $10,000 in prizes. In partnership with Everyone Matters and Rhino Films, the Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a one-on-one meeting with acclaimed Hollywood Producer Stephen Nemeth from the Academy-Award nominated The Sessions and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and a state-of-the-art CANON camera. Additional prizes provided by Final Draft, 3636 studios, Screenblade, NYWIFT, Meditative Writing, and International Screenwriters Association. The finale is also generously supported by JMR Professional Video Rentals, Adorama Rental Company, Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, and VINE. 

In 2019, we received over 1500 submissions from around the world including international works from Guatemela, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Uruguay, Korea, Madagascar, Israel, Russia, Japan, Czech Republic, Africa, Qatar, Hungary and more. Out of 70 official selections in our main competition, 13 finalists were carefully chosen by our committee and audience vote.

Based off novel The Bedhead by Jennifer Grahame. Caroline and Icy; are bound and burdened by duty. Two women are connected by circumstance. Living untold truths and heartbreak.
I’VE HAD ENOUGH – directed by John M. Keller 
In an era of yellow vests (les gilets jaunes), Juliette, a prominent TV journalist with a fiery temper and acerbic wit, quits live on air.
BROOKYLINO – directed by Johnny Ventimiglia
Desperate for a place to live, two brothers and their cousin, look for an apartment in the neighborhood their grandfather immigrated to 60 years earlier, only to find the neighborhood is not exactly like the stories they heard growing up.

SELF SERVERS – directed by Eliezer Vergara

Self Servers is a comedic exploration into the mind of the millennial, self importance and couple dynamics. The short film begs the question: How well do we know one another and how well do we know ourselves?

DIVISION AVE – directed by Tamar Glezerman

The fight for justice of a Latina cleaning lady in Hasidic Brooklyn.

ESTHER – directed by Montana Mann

A husband plots to kill his wife with his mistress, but their plans take a turn when unsettling mysterious events occur that night.

LAST CALL – directed by Danny Garcia

Sometimes you’re better off not knowing.
