Join us for the the 2018 Katra Film Series Sidebar Edition on Thursday, September 27th at Wine Legend in Downtown Brooklyn featuring works by underrepresented communities and focusing on issues, topics and stories by Women of Color, African-American, Asian-American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ communities.  In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to showcase and celebrate powerful works by 100% Latinx Filmmakers who either wrote, directed or produced one of the following selections in our lineup.

The mighty history and uncertain future of baseball in the Republic of Panamá, and those fighting to recapture the sport from the grips of crisis.

DE COLORES – directed by Luz Zamora

Aura has cleaned the houses of other people for 30 years. But soon she will become the owner of many houses of her own. The film accompanies Aura during the last stage of her journey – a portrait of a woman who came here as a sweet lamb and became a tiger.

ASUNDER – directed by Nathalie Alvarez

During a family party in the countryside, we follow Nia and her cousin Teo, whose relationship balances on the edge of what is considered normative. A film about power, sexuality, love and the urge to explore.

TOMORROW IS TOO LATE – directed by Diego Lummis

A typical night at home for a wistful Harlem mother and her creative, strong-willed daughter is disrupted by their violent neighbors.

SILICA – directed by Eliaz Rodriguez

“Silica” peers into our relationships as our cellphones peer back at us. Chris is looking for solace from the combative text messages he’s receiving from his mother about his girlfriend. A chance conversation with his weird neighbor, Mike, may help Chris to drop all of his problems.

THE FRINGES – directed by Lily Darragh Harty

In a corporate world void of human interaction, Ennis has lost her ability to relate to others. When the company fires her and forces her into a crowded tenement building, Ennis must overcome her fear of human connection to begin again.

WHISKEY SODA – directed by Pablo Robles & Skyler Carkhuff

During rehearsals for a new play, a young actor finds his life turned upside-down when his estranged father shows up outside the theater one day, with a secret.

ALCHEMY – directed by Brandon Polanco

An epic transformation manifests from a seemingly routine interview. A failed everyman begins working through pages and pages of questions. As time begins to elongate, the man finds himself tormented and more and more isolated.
