Now in its 3rd year, Katra’s Sidebar program is dedicated to highlighting outstanding short-form content by talented local filmmakers including works by underrepresented communities focusing on important issues, topics and stories.

Each screening block is followed by Q&A and the audience will vote for the best work of the evening and the winner takes home prizes with total value of $2000 courtesy of the Bowery Film Festival, 3636 Studios and International Screenwriters’ Association.

Deep Creek         directed by John Knipp

Noah, a disgruntled writer, searches for creative seclusion at an old waterfront cabin.

Push Up         directed by Bryan Enk

Upon a friend’s breakup, a couple strives to connect with each other as they face their own impending estrangement.

Stamenigma         directed by Joey Angerone

A silent film that explores a woman’s obsession with staying young.

Nil by Mouth         directed by Kaye Tuckerman

An experimental short based by New York Based, Australian writer/director Kaye Tuckerman. Based on her personal experience with Anorexia, and her struggle with body image and beauty as dictated by contemporary western society and the media.

This film tells the story of a woman who escapes a constricting relationship, on the day of her wedding, in order to reconnect with a past lover: a wild, passionate, free-spirited Mexican man.

Coming to Terms    directed by Gui Agustini & Joseph Blake Menzel

Dealing with tragedy, grief, and death is a part of every human’s life. It’s how we learn to accept these moments that largely define who we are. Coming to Terms parallels the life of a woman losing her sister with the life of a man losing his life long friend. They are faced with one of life’s most painful trials, finding love in the midst of loss.
